Barton Community College Library to have pamphlet art contest

The Barton Community College Library will hold an art contest beginning April 10 to determine the artwork for ten Cohen Center for Kansas History (CCKH) trivia pamphlets.  Submissions must be done in pencil or colored pencil and must be received by April 23.  Contest is open to all students, Barton employees, and community members.  Multiple entries are accepted.

The CCKH is in the southeast alcove of the Library on the Barton County campus and is the result of the generosity of Barton P. and Dr. Mary Davidson Cohen of Leawood, Kan.  It is dedicated to preserving Kansas History resources and inspiring research in Kansas history.

The artwork will reflect Kansas History and each pamphlet will depict one of the following subjects: biography, general, railroads, towns and counties, fiction and poetry, geography-geology and travel, the Santa Fe Trail, frontier and pioneer life, Native Americans or socialism.  A winner will be picked for each pamphlet.

Submissions must be done in pencil or colored pencil and must be received by April 23.  The original hard copy must be submitted to Barton Community College Library, 245 NE 30 rd., Great Bend.  Contestants must include their name, mailing address and phone number.  Submissions must be in portrait (vertical) orientation and must be no larger than 8-1/2” x 11”.

The winners will have their artwork printed on the pamphlet and will also have an artist bio in the pamphlet.  Their work will also be shown in the Shafer Art Gallery during Kansas Week in January and the winner for each pamphlet will also receive a $100 gift card, courtesy of the Barton Foundation.
