Barton’s CDL courses are designed to meet U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and the new Entry Level Driving Training (ELDT) requirements. Class A & B Training Details
- 6 Week Online Theory Course: 3 credit hours; $480
- Students learn and complete assignments on their own schedule. Assignments are due weekly. Textbook purchase is required. The textbook “J.J. Keller Entry Level Driver Training Manual” is available for purchase at the Barton Bookstore.
- 8 Week Behind-The Wheel (BTW) Course: 2 credit hours; $952 (includes tuition/course fees)
- Drive time is by appointment with the instructor.
- Students have access to a variety of trucks; day cab, conventional with sleeper, flatbed, van trailer, and Class B flatbed. All trucks are equipped with manual transmissions.
- Customized training options are available.

Class A & B Program Process
- Apply for Admissions to Barton and enroll in the Theory Course
- Once enrolled students will receive an informational welcome letter from the instructor.
- Complete the Theory course with an 80% or better (FMCSA standard) to obtain the Theory certificate.
- Prior to the beginning date of the Behind The Wheel (BTW) course students must obtain:
- Class A or B commercial drivers permit with airbrakes and combination (only Class A) endorsement.
- Negative Drug Test
- Medical DOT card
- Students must attend the mandatory orientation meeting. Students must provide the above listed documents to be eligible to enroll in the Behind the Wheel course. During this meeting students will complete required enrollment paperwork and receive scheduling and course information. Orientation meetings are scheduled in the evening.
- Students schedule drive times and testing appointments throughout the 8 weeks.

Public CDL Drive Testing
The CDL driving examination is available to applicants who provide their own vehicles and have met ELDT requirements. Test fees are $50 for the initial CDL Test and $20 for a retest. Payment for testing is required at the time of test scheduling.
Cancellation Policy
If the applicant cancels and reschedules with 48-hour notification, the prepaid test fee will be applied to the rescheduled test, or may be refunded. The applicant will forfeit test fees if the appointment is not kept.
