Barton Community College is one of the area’s largest employers. It’s a progressive, comprehensive community college with offerings ranging from art and traditional associate degree options to more than 25 industry-specific training programs like nursing, natural gas measurement and more. The college’s activities bring in money to the area, stimulate the local economy and it is a driving force behind reducing crime rates and improving quality of life.

Barton Community College has seen steady growth for six years. The institution as a whole drew nearly 4,300 full-time-equivalent (FTE) students in 2013-14, which is about a 4-percent increase over last year, and a 32-percent increase since the growth trend began in 2007-08, according to the full-time equivalent (FTE) data gathered at the close of the spring semester. Note: Figures subject to slight changes until data “freeze” date in August. This information is a reflection of the current outlook.

Barton Community College has named 204 students to the President’s List for the spring 2014 semester.  To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

Barton Community College has named 287 students to the Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester.  To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

The Shafer Art Gallery will host a “fiesta reception” to kick off the traveling exhibit “Estamos Aqui” from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 27 featuring contemporary serigraphs by 40 artists, who create from the Latino/Chicano perspective as well guest exhibits in the same vain from local artists Humberto Saenz of Wichita and Hugo Gonzales of Great Bend.  The event will include authentic Mexican food, live mariachi music, cultural dance and children’s activities.

Barton Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) student Jonna Anspaugh of Heizer received the Outstanding Student Award from the Kansas Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (KSCLS) in April.  The award was presented to her at the MLT pinning on commencement day on May 16.

Barton Community College debate and forensics competitor Chase Pumford of Great Bend was crowned the JV National Champion in “Persuasive Speaking,” at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Hutchinson March 14-16.
