Barton Community College will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 in the Technical Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training Building.

CTE Month 2015: This feature is the first of four stories to be released by Barton Community College in February in celebration of Career Technical Education (CTE) Month.

The Barton Community College Performing Arts Department will host “Scholarship Day” auditions on Thursday, Feb. 12. Current or prospective students may contact the Music Department to set up a time to audition for music or theatre scholarships or performance awards. Awards are available for performing arts majors and non-performing arts majors alike.

The Barton Community College Library will celebrate “Library Lovers Month” in February by featuring a unique event each week including special library-wide themes, creative book displays, a Facebook promotion, scavenger hunt and more. The event is open to students, faculty, staff and community members.

The Barton Planetarium will feature movies utilizing the full-dome projection system throughout the spring semester. The Planetarium is located in the Science Building. Enter through the sliding doors on the north side. Admission is free.
Each movie will be followed by a live presentation by Barton’s Planetarium Director Dr. Tim Folkerts. The presentations will feature a tour of the night sky, hands-on activities or actual outdoor stargazing.

Barton Community College will host “Kansas History Snapshot: E. Haldeman-Julius: Controversial Publisher and Free-Thinker,” a presentation by Dean of Library Services and Curator of Special Collections at Pittsburg State University Randy Roberts, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 in the Library. Catered refreshments will be served.
This presentation is a chance for attendees to learn about the history of the Cohen Center’s collection of “Little Blue Books.”

Barton’s Shafer Art Gallery will host an opening reception for an exhibit featuring the Kansas-inspired works of artists Doloris Pederson and Christina Lamoureaux titled “Pulse of the Prairie” from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 in the Shafer Art Gallery. Artist talks and performances will be at 6:15 and 7:30 p.m.
Shafer Art Gallery director Dave Barnes said the exhibit is a great showcase of the beauty and intrigue of Kansas.
